Firearms discharge in Newbold Verdon

Detectives are investigating a report of a firearms discharge in Newbold Verdon last night.

Officers were called to an address in Brascote Lane shortly before 10.40pm on Tuesday (9 June) following a report that gunshots had been heard.

In the interest of public and police safety, armed officers were deployed.

On arrival at the scene, damage was found to have been caused to a property and a car parked on the driveway which were consistent with a firearm having been discharged.

No-one was injured.

A scene preservation is in place as an examination of the scene continues to be carried out.

Detective Inspector Louise Rooke, from our Complex Investigation Team (CIT), said: “Our investigation into this incident is very much ongoing with a number of enquiries being progressed.

“This includes speaking to residents to determine if they saw or heard anything as well as reviewing any local CCTV or doorbell footage.

I am aware that we issued information that we are investigating a firearms discharge at a property in Cort Crescent, Braunstone last week.

At this stage, we do believe that these two incidents are linked. As part of our investigation into that incident, a 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life and remains in police custody.

“I appreciate incidents of the nature may cause some concern, but I would like to reassure the local communities that detectives are working hard to establish the full circumstances surrounding these incidents. Local officers have been briefed and are providing reassurance patrols and they are approachable to discuss any concerns you may have.

“If you have any information or footage which may be connected to either incident, even if it only seems small to you, it could be of importance to our investigation, so please get in touch.”
