Charnwood Borough Council is planning to invest around £4.3 million in leisure centres, parks, CCTV and community facilities.

The former toilets in Southfields Park, Loughborough which the Council is planning to reopen.
The investment programme includes a range of projects that will improve local facilities, public spaces and community safety across the borough.
The plan includes £1.8 million to improve the efficiency and operation of the Council’s three leisure centres, £1.6 million for parks and open spaces across Charnwood, and over £500,000 for improvements to the borough’s CCTV network.
Around £250,000 will also be used to reopen the long-closed toilets in Southfields Park in Loughborough following the addition of a Cruyff Court, multi-use canopy and new outdoor gym equipment, which have helped increase use of the park.
Cllr Jewel Miah, Leader of the Council, said: “This investment demonstrates our commitment to maintaining and improving the facilities that residents use every day.
“Whether it is upgrading our leisure centres, improving parks and open spaces, strengthening our CCTV network or providing important facilities like public toilets, these projects will benefit communities across Charnwood and help ensure our public assets remain fit for the future.”
The Council has leisure centres in Loughborough, Syston and Mountsorrel. The investment will upgrade heating systems, power management and pool plant machinery, improving efficiency and helping ensure the facilities remain in good condition for years to come.
The £1.6 million for parks and open spaces will see paths, play areas and other improvements made. An exact programme of works and locations is being developed.
Over £500,000 will be spent on the CCTV network to provide higher-quality cameras, expand coverage in new locations and make the system more resilient.
Around £150,000 will also be invested into Loughborough Town Hall to improve catering facilities to better support events at the venue.
Investment in these projects will be delivered over the next two to three years, and more detailed budget planning and procurement processes will be used to establish final costs.
It comes as the Council completes a £150,000 scheme to improve a riverside footpath in Syston and as £950,000 of improvement work continues on two car parks in Loughborough, replacing lifts, improving surfaces and adding electric vehicle charging points.
