Mayor of Charnwood's Remembrance message

It is a great personal honour for me as Mayor of Charnwood to be part of this year’s Remembrance events, as we acknowledge the sacrifice to those brave people in the UK and throughout the Commonwealth who fought and died in service of their country.

Remembrance Sunday is a time for us to come together and join one of the many services throughout the towns and villages of Charnwood where we can show our respects as we share in the two-minute silence and in so doing keep alive the memory of our fallen heroes.

We should take heart that so many of us continue to be part of this occasion, and indeed, our Remembrance parade and service in Loughborough has now grown to be one of the largest in the East Midlands.

It is appropriate at this time to think of those for whom war is still an ongoing issue in the many conflicts that have taken place in recent years and are still taking place around the world. Many families are still affected, and your support remains important and continues to be needed.

Please be as generous as possible when buying your poppy and wear it with pride. It is important that we continue to honour all past and present serving members and their families within our armed services community.

Your donations will be gratefully received by the Royal British Legion, without which it could not continue its work in supporting those service personnel and their families affected by the conflicts in which they have served.

Cllr Colin Hamilton

Mayor of Charnwood

Loughborough’s Queen’s Park will host a Remembrance Sunday event on November 8, where those who have served and are currently serving in our armed forces will be honoured.

The service will be held at the Carillon Tower, the town’s War Memorial.

The Remembrance Sunday Parade will start from the town centre at 10.20am and make its way to the Carillon for the service, which starts at 10.50am.
