A woman who was identified as being a member of an organised crime group trafficking women into the country for prostitution has been jailed for her part in the operation.

In January this year a planned enforcement took place at an address in South Leicester where Wai Mui Sin was arrested and several mobile phones were recovered.

Following an examination of the devices, officers found evidence of the phones being used to advertise women for sexual services on two websites.

The adverts contained details of the services provided at the premises and when officers attended the address they found large amounts of sexual paraphernalia.

The investigation into the activity carried out at the premises began in March 2025 and covert enquiries revealed the activity at the premises.

The victims were on a carousel, moving from brothel to brothel around the country for a week at a time, the premises in South Leicester was one hub on the carousel.

The operation was like a conveyor belt, delivering a steady stream of women to Leicester to have sex with men for money. The women doing the work did not receive the money, Sin received the money in cash or by bank transfer.

Between May 2025 and January 2026, 27 women were trafficked through the business.

Once Sin had the money in her account, a significant amount was transferred to accounts in China.

The defendant operated several bank accounts, between May 2025 and January 2026 more than £135,000 was banked by Sin.

At a hearing in July, 62-year-old Sin, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, control prostitution for gain and transferring criminal property.

Today (Thursday 29 October), she was sentenced to five years and four months imprisonment. She was also issued a Slavery and Trafficking Prevention Order (STPO) for seven years.

Detective Constable Natasha Panchal, the investigating officer, said: “This was a deliberate and exploitative operation run for profit, in which women were treated as commodities.

“It was clear during the investigation that Sin was part of a network of people who exploited women for their own financial gain.

“Up to 11 men would visit the premises throughout the day and the victims were made to work long days.

“Prior to the arrival of each victim, the defendant would advertise them for sexual services on two websites.

More than 24 adverts were identified and all were taken out with one of Sin’s two telephone numbers as the point of contact.

“The women they exploited were vulnerable and they took advantage of that for their own gain. We are pleased Sin admitted her involvement in the offences and she now faces time in prison for her actions.

“We hope this case and the outcome sends a strong message to those who believe they can operate businesses like this and exploit women.

We would also like to reassure our communities that we are committed to investigating reports of this nature and safeguarding those involved.

“If you have been a victim of such offences, help and support is available. You can contact the police at any time.

If you do not feel ready to do so, you can contact The Salvation Army who have a 24/7 confidential referral helpline on 0800 808 3733.
