Visit Leicester is launching a new campaign celebrating Hidden Gems around the city and the county. These are the places that Leicester and Leicestershire locals love, the spots that visitors might not know about or have considered visiting before, but once they do, want to tell everyone!

We all know about the large attractions around Leicestershire, but what about those that are equally excellent but maybe not as well known or off the beaten track. That’s exactly why Visit Leicester have created this new campaign, to showcase the widest possible range of fantastic attractions to visit, places to go, things to see and food to eat while encouraging visitors to stay longer and explore the city and county.
Whether it’s outdoor adventures, historic sites, independent cinemas or delicious treats, these attractions can form part of a wider visit to Leicester and Leicestershire. So while visitors may come for Richard III, Belvoir Castle, Twycross Zoo or the National Space Centre they could also take a tour of Leicester’s amazing Street Art, or an afternoon at the Retro Computer Museum.
They could also undertake some retail therapy at the independent shops of Leicester’s Lanes, a film or performance at Leicester’s independent four screen cinema Phoenix or grab a meal from one of the many amazing restaurants in England’s Curry Capital!

Further afield, Melton Carnegie Museum and the 1620s House were named as Hidden Gems in VisitEngland’s Vistor Attraction Quality Scheme Awards for the quality of their welcome and historic storytelling, and Foxton Locks is one of the most underappreciated countryside days out that has to be seen to be believed, while the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience is an amazing FREE exhibition showcasing this globally recognised brand.
A lot of the Hidden Gems are local favourites, places that people from the region love and celebrate, and Visit Leicester want to build upon the positivity of our local people about the family days out, childhood memories or new discoveries that have inspired this campaign.
The campaign will put these Hidden Gems into context as part of a wider visit, recommending places to stay and eat as part of an itinerary showcasing the very best that Leicester and Leicestershire have to offer.
Director of Place Marketing and Inward Investment Mike Denby said: “We are really proud to launch this new campaign, which shines a light on some of the very best venues and attractions our city and county have to offer. We know that Leicester locals love these places and I am certain that our visitors will feel the same when they discover them. There’s much more to come so keep an eye out as this campaign develops!”
The Hidden Gems webpage on the Visit Leicester website is now live and the team are calling on Leicesterians to suggest their own Hidden Gems as the campaign launches!
