The Great Central Railway is inviting families to make the most of the final weeks of the summer holidays with a full day out for adults at just £10 a ticket – with kids able to travel for just £1.

Starting on Saturday 22nd August, visitors will be able to take advantage of unlimited travel for a day on the Great Central Railway’s heritage trains for just £10 per person, with children’s tickets available for just £1, up until the end of the school holidays on the 31 August 2026.
Young visitors can choose from a selection of FREE activity packs aimed at all ages, giving them plenty to spot, explore and discover as they travel along the line.
The offer provides an affordable way to enjoy a full day out, with visitors able to hop on and off the heritage trains and explore the Great Central Railway’s four stations at their leisure. It has also been designed to make a visit to the railway accessible to people who may not normally be able to afford a day out, helping more people experience the trains, stations and attractions that make the Great Central Railway special.
With beautifully restored and authentically presented stations that span from Leicester to Loughborough, including the 1912 setting of Rothley and WWII ambience of Quorn and Woodhouse, each station offers something different to discover. A steam locomotive will be on static display on midweek dates at Loughborough Central Station, providing an opportunity for visitors to view, photograph and learn more about how these historic locos work. Guests can also enjoy the railway’s exhibitions, attractions and refreshments throughout the day.
Malcolm Holmes, General Manager of the Great Central Railway, said:
“We wanted to give people a simple reason to come and enjoy the railway before the summer holidays come to an end.
“We also recognise that the cost of days out can add up quickly, particularly over the summer holidays, and we wanted to make sure that a visit to the Great Central Railway was within reach for as many people as possible.
This offer gives those who might not normally be able to afford a day out the chance to come and enjoy the railway, explore our stations and spend a full day together without a large price tag.
“By coming to see us, visitors can enjoy a great experience while also helping support the railway. It’s been a challenging summer, particularly with the prolonged hot and dry weather, so we’re really hoping people will take advantage of this offer.”
The offer is part of Great Central Railway’s Summer of Discovery, which encourages visitors to explore the railway and discover more about its trains, stations, people and history.
With Runabout Tickets at £10, kids at £1 and free activity packs for children, the railway is encouraging families to make the most of the final weeks of the school holidays.
£10 tickets are on sale now for the following dates: 22, 23, 27, 29, 30 and 31 August.
