Residents are invited to come together this November to honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served, and continue to serve, in the Armed Forces.

HM Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Rutland County Council and the Royal British Legion are encouraging people to attend a programme of Remembrance events taking place across the county from Friday 6 to Wednesday 11 November 2026.

With two military bases, serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families, Rutland has strong ties to the Armed Forces, with an estimated one in five residents having a military connection.

Friday 6 November – Festival of Remembrance

Rutland's fourth Festival of Remembrance, organised by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness, will take place at Rutland Hall Hotel, with a reception at 6.30pm followed by a concert at 7.30pm.

The evening will feature music and reflection, including performances from Rutland's secondary schools and the Cottesmore Military Wives Choir.

All profits will support the Rutland Branch of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Tickets are available online:

Saturday 7 November – Music for Remembrance

Rutland Concert Band will perform its annual Music for Remembrance concert at All Saints' Church, Oakham, at 7.30pm.

The concert will feature a programme of music centred around Remembrance, with all proceeds donated to the Poppy Appeal. Tickets cost £5 and can be purchased on arrival.

Sunday 8 November – County Service of Remembrance

The County Service of Remembrance will take place at All Saints' Church, Oakham, at 2.30pm.

A parade of military personnel, cadets, Scouts, Guides, voluntary organisations and Armed Forces veterans will depart Oakham Castle at 2pm, travelling along the High Street, where the Lord-Lieutenant will take the salute.

The service will conclude with a wreath-laying ceremony. Members of the public are warmly invited to attend and are asked to be seated by 2.15pm.

Churches across Rutland will also hold their own Remembrance services. Residents are encouraged to contact their local church for details.

Wednesday 11 November – Armistice Day

A short Service of Remembrance will take place in the grounds of Oakham Castle at 10.50am, including a minute's silence at 11am.

The service will be conducted by the Venerable John Ellis CB, former Chaplain-in-Chief to the Royal Air Force, with representatives from local military units and veterans' organisations in attendance. Members of the public are welcome.
