Four people injured after hit and run collision in city centre
Detectives are investigating after four pedestrians were injured in the city centre when they were involved in a collision yesterday evening (Saturday 26 September).
The collision occurred on Vaughan Way at 10.12pm and involved a silver vehicle.
The pedestrians were crossing the road at a crossing towards the junction with Highcross Street; three of the men were taken to hospital where they are undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the scene, but following enquiries a 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while over the prescribed limit for alcohol, and causing grievous bodily harm and remain in police custody.
A vehicle believed to be involved in the collision has been identified and enquiries are ongoing.
There were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident and we would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or any party beforehand to make contact. If anyone was driving in the area and captured anything relevant on dashcam we would like to speak to you.
This is being treated as an isolated incident and officers will be conducting enquiries in the area, we ask that people do not speculate about the circumstances and only share factual information from genuine sources.
Vaughan Way was closed while enquiries were ongoing but has since been reopened.
