Appeal for information after driver dies in A42 collision

Officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are investigating a fatal incident on the A42 – and are appealing for anyone who can help to come forward.

Police were called to the slip road of the northbound carriageway at junction 14, for Tongue, just after 2.30pm yesterday (Sunday 9 August) following a report of a collision involving a silver Vauxhall Astra, silver Ford Kuga and an HGV.

The driver of the Astra – a woman in her 40s – was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Kuga is continuing to receive treatment in hospital for serious injuries but the other two occupants did not sustain serious injuries. The HGV driver was not injured.

Officers attending the incident were informed that the Astra had been seen travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway prior to the collision occurring.

Detective Sergeant Charlotte Mee, from the SCIU, said: “Our investigation to understand the circumstances of this incident is continuing and I’m appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.

“I’d like to speak to anyone who was on the A42 around the time the collision occurred and either saw what happened or saw any of the vehicles involved beforehand.

“I’d particularly like to speak to anyone who captured the incident on a dashcam as any footage could assist with our enquiries.”
