Work starts on ambitious Stocking Farm housing scheme
Work to build 50 energy-efficient, family-friendly council homes on an underused area of Leicester estate is now under way.
The city council has contracted Clegg Construction to deliver the ambitious £18.8 million redevelopment of the Stocking Farm estate, in the north-west of the city.

Leicester City Council has worked closely with the local community over recent years to shape proposals for the area. The new homes on the 3.34-acre site will be built to the highest energy performance standards, meaning cheaper energy bills for tenants. An additional five council maisonettes will be improved as part of the scheme.
The existing locally-listed Stocking Farm farmhouse building – which dates to the 19th century – will remain, and is also due to be redeveloped to provide six much-needed supported living apartments. An additional 16 supported living extra-care apartments will be created in the grounds
Contractors have now moved onto the site and site preparation work including demolition of vacant buildings is now getting under way. Construction of the new homes is expected to begin early in the new year, with the overall scheme expected to be complete by mid-2028.
Deputy city mayor Cllr Elly Cutkelvin, who leads on housing, economy and neighbourhoods, said: “We are committed to investing in our council estates and local neighbourhoods, and Stocking Farm presents a fantastic opportunity to deliver lasting improvements that will benefit residents for generations to come.
“It’s exciting to see work now under way on site, marking another significant milestone for this ambitious regeneration project. The development will provide much-needed new council homes, bring underused land back into productive use, and create a more attractive and vibrant neighbourhood.
“With Clegg Construction now on site, we are taking another important step towards transforming this part of the city and delivering real benefits for both existing and future residents.”
