Tackling the illegal tobacco trade in Leicestershire
Officers from Leicestershire Trading Standards, working alongside Leicestershire Police and partner agencies, have been carrying out enforcement activity across the county as part of Operation Machinize, the ongoing National Crime Agency project tackling money laundering and the criminal use of cash-intensive businesses.
The sale of illicit tobacco undermines legitimate businesses, deprives the public purse of revenue and can be linked to wider criminality. Through joint enforcement activity, we continue to identify, investigate and address those involved in the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
