Eight arrested as officers appeal for witnesses to affray in Braunstone

Police officers investigating an incident of affray in Braunstone are appealing for anyone with information or footage to come forward after eight people were arrested.



Police were called to Winstanley Drive just after 5pm on Thursday (13 August) following a report that a group of men were fighting with weapons.


In the interest of public and police safety, armed officers were deployed. A total of eight people have since been arrested.


The men – three aged 18, two aged 23, two aged 20 and one aged 21 – were each arrested on suspicion of affray.


The 18-year-olds were also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply, with one of them also being arrested on suspicion of crack cocaine with intent to supply.


All eight have been released on bail while enquiries continue. No serious injuries were reported during the incident.


Detective Inspector Paul Hawkins, from City CID, said:


“Our investigation to establish the circumstances and motive of this incident is continuing and I’m appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.


“I’m particularly keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone who has footage on a dashcam, doorbell or CCTV camera. Any information you provide could assist our enquiries.


Inspector Ryan Hayes, commander for the West Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA), added:


“I’d like to reassure the local community that following this incident, reassurance patrols have been taking place in the area. If you have any concerns, please speak to officers.”
