City charity Leicester Children’s Holidays is organising a fund-raising afternoon of fun, music and good food at a Picnic in the Park.
Families are invited to the get-together at Leicester’s Botanical Gardens on Saturday September 7.
Revellers at the picnic will enjoy a host of entertainment including dazzling tricks from professional Leicester magician The Great Adamos and the Theatretrain group of performers who will entertain the young and old during the day.

The picnic raises funds to send children on holiday. The recent trip organised and paid for by Leicester Children’s Holidays saw 44 children enjoy a break in Norfolk.
The cost for each youngster was £391 and they learned about confidence-building and teamwork at an outdoor adventure centre – as well as having fun. Some of the children who went on this summer’s trip will be at the picnic.

After the opening by Oadby and Wigston mayor Councillor Lynda Eaton, funfair games and stalls will be enjoyed alongside face painting, sweet and cake stalls and lots of entertainment. The talented Au-Yong family trio will play classical and other popular tunes. Acclaimed guitarist James Fitzsimmons will also play. He has long been a supporter of the charity and plans to record his own songs soon.
Charity trustee Simon Toole is centre director at Theatretrain and will showcase young members of the stage school which offers drama, dance and singing classes for youngsters aged between six and 18. Laraine Tucker from Tai Chi group String of Pearls will perform a fan tai chi movement.
The buffet will be served at 3pm and if the weather stays fine there will be bistro tables and tarpaulin laid out for the picnic.
The Great Adamos will show off his magic skills as families enjoy the food.
Charity chair of events June Lim, who works with a team of volunteers, said she especially wanted families to bring their children along. She said: “The idea is that a family can help a family who are not fortunate enough to send their child on holiday.
“There is free parking outside the venue and everyone will get the chance to take a look around the botanical gardens which is a haven of peace. Do come along. It will be fun.”
Those attending can take a picnic rug or folding chair. The full address is Glebe Road, Oadby, Leicester LE2 2LD.
