Open Streets returns to Leicester with art, cycling and family fun

Open Streets, Leicester’s popular mini-festival, returns for a summer celebration on Sunday 30 August.
The event will once again see city streets in the Waterside area transformed into vibrant community spaces, building on the success of May’s event, which was attended by more than 1,000 people.
From 1-4pm, visitors to Graff HQ in Jarvis Street can enjoy street art, guided tours, cycling activities, music and hands-on workshops, all designed to celebrate active travel and bring people together. And it’s all free!
Wheels for All will be offering cycling sessions on their adapted bikes, and Cyclone Works will be bringing their popular junk-art bikes, so that visitors can use pedal power to get creative. There will be a sound system throughout the day, and a street art jam from festival partners Graffwerk.
Open Streets is part of the 22nd annual Ride Leicester Festival, a month-long celebration of cycling and active travel across the city.
Councillor Geoff Whittle, Leicester City Council's assistant city mayor for transport and environment, said:
“Open Streets is a fantastic opportunity for people to experience our city differently. By creating welcoming spaces where residents can walk, cycle, explore local art and spend time together, we're helping to show how streets can support healthier, more connected communities.
“The previous Open Streets event attracted families, cyclists, artists and local residents of all ages, and we're looking forward to bringing that same energy and creativity back to the Waterside this summer."

“We're excited to be working with Leicester City Council once again to bring street art, creativity and culture to the heart of the city. Open Streets gives people the chance to get involved, try something new and see talented artists at work."
