A new pot of cash is set to boost support for voluntary and community organisations across rural Leicestershire.

The new Community Connections Fund will deliver £800,000 over four years to help local areas stay independent, connected, and active.

Approved by Leicestershire County Council’s cabinet, the fund will provide support and services for adults living in rural areas.

With voluntary and community organisations playing an important role in supporting residents, the funding will be available to organisations working with adults who may be living with long-term health conditions, disabilities, caring responsibilities, loneliness or social isolation – enabling support closer to home.

The fund aims to strengthen existing community provision while creating opportunities for new local services that help people remain well, active and connected within their communities.

Councillor Michael Squires, cabinet member for adult social care said:

"This is a fantastic new fund, and I’m delighted we’ll be able to offer it to our rural communities.

We know that local groups understand their communities best, and by strengthening local support and developing opportunities for services closer to home it means we will see stronger, more connected rural communities.

We’ve also made sure that this fund lasts for four years so that local areas can benefit for the long-term to bring sustainable and lasting projects."

Further details about the fund, including eligibility criteria and how organisations can apply, will be announced in the coming weeks.
