Leicester‘s Christmas Light Switch on Thursday 22nd November Humberstone Gate

Celebrate the official start of Christmas in Leicester with the lights switch-on sponsored by Octopus Energy. The event will once again be on Humberstone Gate West, offering a fantastic programme of stage entertainment from 5pm to 8pm that includes live music, special guests, and stars of Peter Pan - X Factor winner Sam Bailey, CBeebies’ Cat Sandion and BBC Radio Leicester’s Martin Ballard as Dame.
Be sure not to miss the lights being switched on at 6.20pm with the Lord Mayor. For the first time the event will be broadcast live on TV with ITV News Central presenter Matt Teale TV helping to host the big switch-on. And for an extra special treat Sam Bailey will sing 'White Christmas' as a flurry of real snow floats down over Humberstone Gate West.
This year “begin at the beginning” to see an animated tableau scene featuring Alice in Wonderland at Town Hall Square alongside the traditional Nativity scene that tells the real story of Christmas.
At Jubilee Square scan the sky for Santa in one of covered gondolas on Christmas Wheel of Light. Open until 10pm, hop on and admire the city’s twinkling Christmas lights from above.
Over on New Market Square, enjoy award-winning street food & drinks plus entertainment with A Christmas Canteen event from 12pm to 10.30pm. It’s the perfect place to meet up with friends and family throughout the day.
