Arrest in connection with collision involving pedestrian and e-bike

Detectives investigating a serious collision in which a pedestrian was struck by an electric bicycle (e-bike) off Saffron Lane have arrested a man in connection with the incident.

The man – who is 26 and from Leicester – was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving this afternoon and remains in custody.

Shortly after 2pm last Tuesday (19 April), police were called to Broughton Road following a report of a collision. It was reported the cyclist had left the area prior to officers arriving.

The pedestrian – a man in his 30s – remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Constable Emma Neeves, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “While we have arrested a man and spoken to a number of people in connection with this incident, I am still asking for anyone who may be able to help but has not yet come forward to do so.

“I would still like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage of the incident. Anything you’re able to provide could help our enquiries.”
