Campaign aims to encourage victims of sexual abuse and violence to come forward Leicestershire Police is supporting a week of action which aims to encourage victims of sexual abuse and violence to come forward to report crimes. The campaign, which uses the hashtag #ItsNotOk, is aimed at those who typically under report crimes of this nature, including members of faith groups, males and women over 55. Starting today (Monday 4 February) and running until Sunday 10 February, the force will promote the support services available to victims through a series of messages and videos. The campaign is also being supported by UAVA (United Against Violence and Abuse), Victim First, and Leicester Rape Crisis, all of whom can offer dedicated help and guidance. Millicent Gant, manager of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) based at Juniper Lodge, Leicestershire, said: “This is an important campaign which aims to raise awareness of sexual abuse and sexual violence. Both are extremely sensitive subjects and it is our hope that this week will encourage more people to speak out. “Victims of sexual violence or sexual abuse are not alone. There are many specialist services available run by dedicated professionals offering emotional and practical support. Our aim is to break down barriers including gender and culture which could prevent some from reaching out, whether you wish to formally report to the Police or not. "Juniper Lodge provides a confidential service for anyone over the age of 18 who has been raped or sexually assaulted either recently or at any time in the past, regardless of gender, language, or cultural identity.” Seetal Rajput, senior independent violence advisor at UAVA, said: “UAVA Ltd stands for United Against Violence and Abuse. We are a consortium of three local specialist providers of domestic abuse and sexual violence services. “Sexual assault and rape is a traumatic and extremely stressful experience, whether it was by someone known or by a complete stranger. UAVA has a specialist team of Independent Sexual Violence Advisers. This service is for anyone male or female, living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, who has experienced rape or sexual assault. This could be as a result of a recent incident or something that has happened in the past. We are here to help and support during a difficult time and help along the road to recovery.” Joe Raby from Victim First added: “This campaign can be significant in creating an open discussion around sexual violence and abuse and the ways in which organisations can provide support. “Hopefully this week will help people feel confident to talk about this area, ask questions and challenge myths and stereotypes so that we continue to help victims feel more comfortable accessing support. “Victim First supports all victims and these cases do not have to be reported to the police. We provide dedicated caseworkers to find the right support path for individuals.” A spokeswoman for Leicester Rape Crisis at Jasmine House, which provides support to females aged 13 upwards who have suffered from recent or historic sexual abuse, said: “Our support services range from a telephone helpline, one-to-one support, and counselling. “Later this month we will also be launching a family support group, a young girls support group 13 - 17 and an adults support group. Outcry from Tesco customers, over the loss of fresh food counters we visited the Narborough Road store today here in Leicester. One customer said “ I don’t like prepackaged fish, it’s a waste of Materials and is bad for the environment. Look at It it’s tripled packed Why Why buy it when you get fresh fish. If they close the counter I will shop elsewhere” Tesco are planning to closed down some of it’s Fresh meat and fish counters in a cost cutting exercise. Is this a bad move for Tesco. Another customer from Leicester said “it’s disgusting Tesco needs to help to save our planet, not pollutant it anymore. The supermarket chain could also close some of its meat, and delicatessen counters. The store management refused to give any comment. "Our ‘lives not knives’ campaign Officers on a knife crime operation in Leicester City Centre on Saturday night (2nd February) have recovered seven knives and arrested six people. The operation saw neighbourhood officers working with response officers and CCTV operators to tackle a recent increase in robberies around the market place in the city centre. Officers carried out intelligence led high visibility patrols, used their stop search powers and the knife arch was placed outside a city centre nightclub. Officers made six arrests; three 16 year old men from Leicester and a 17 year old man were arrested on suspicion of possession of a weapon and released on conditional bail. Another 17 year old man from Leicester was arrested on suspicion of robbery but released no further action. A sixth person, 25 year old Rahsaan Harris of Berberis Close in Leicester, was charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place and possession of a Class B controlled drug. He was released on unconditional bail to attend Leicester Magistrates Court on Thursday 28 February 2019. Inspector Manjit Atwal, Commander of the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Area said; “Saturday night’s operation was a great example of the benefits of pulling together to achieve one goal. I am really pleased that we have taken six nasty weapons off our streets and made a significant number of arrests and I hope this sends out a message to others that if you carry a knife into the city centre you stand a high chance of being stopped and searched. "Our ‘lives not knives’ campaign is designed to drive home the message that carrying a knife can have devastating consequences and if you are caught carrying a knife you could end up in prison. Hopefully Saturday’s operation will make others think twice before carrying a knife. Fire evacuation at the Highcross This afternoon Leicestershire Fire service was called out this afternoon to a report of a Fire alarm at the Highcross shopping Centre. 4 fire appliances was seen in High street. Shoppers had to leave the centre and restaurants was left with uneaten food on tables, most of the customers did not return. Many tens of thousands of pounds could have been lost due to this interruption in trading, But public safety comes first. Today here in Leicester another Road traffic collision on Gipsy Lane this afternoon, caused after the Police authorised chase. Three innocent people injured. A police pursuit had been authorised shortly before a suspected stolen vehicle collided with a Volvo in Leicester this afternoon. It happened on Victoria Road East in Leicester at around 12:30 this afternoon and the road remains closed. Three people from the Volvo have been taken to hospital but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The vehicle which it collided with was believed to be stolen and officers, supported by a helicopter, spotted it near the crash site. It failed to stop and then crashed. An investigation into the circumstances is now under way. A 20-year-old Leicester man has been arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle and remains in police custody. A vehicle believed to be stolen was seen by officers in the Stocking Farm area earlier today. The National Police Air Support (NPAS) unit were deployed to assist officers on the ground and the vehicle was located in the Gypsy Lane area of Leicester. The suspect vehicle failed to stop for officers and was then involved in a collision with a Volvo just after 12.30pm. Three people in the Volvo sustained injuries not believed to be life threatening and have been taken to hospital for treatment. Tesco Britain’s largest supermarket chain has triggered the painful review after one of the toughest Christmas trading periods on record. Tesco will reportedly axe 15,000 jobs as part of a £1.5bn cost-saving measure. The supermarket chain will also close its meat, fish and delicatessen counters, according to the Mail on Sunday. The paper claims in-store bakeries will also be overhauled, with fresh dough replaced with frozen dough. The plans are expected to affect the majority of Tesco’s 732 larger stores. Pedestrian died after being hit by Car in the early hours of this morning. Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this difficult time. The incident happened in Stoughton Drive South at around 12.30am on Saturday (19 January). The pedestrian – 18-year-old Paul Radcliffe of Leicester - died as a result of the collision, which involved a black Mercedes S350. A 30-year-old man from Leicester was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing death by dangerous driving. He was later released on conditional bail. Detective Constable John Borlase, from Leicestershire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), is continuing to investigate the collision. He said: “Our enquiries to date have led us to believe that Paul was on his way to catch a bus into Leicester with friends. “I am still asking anyone who was driving along Stoughton Drive South around the time of the collision to come forward. We are particularly keen to speak to taxi drivers or delivery drivers who may have been in the area and who have dashcams installed in their vehicles. “I’d ask those drivers to check their cameras if they haven’t already done so for any footage that could help with our investigation. “Likewise I’d also ask for anyone who saw the collision occur or who saw the black Mercedes prior to the collision to come forward if they have not already done so.” As the Mercedes had failed to stop for police prior to the collision occurring and due to the proximity of the car to police vehicles, a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). They have begun an independent investigation.

On saturday the 27th of October, our beloved chairman and 4 other people lost their lives in a horrendous accident. It was Leicester's darkest day. To remember them all and in particular our much loved Chairman, we want to walk en-mass from the City centre to the King Power stadium prior to the Burnley match. Leicester City FC famously won the title, 5000-1. Lets have at least 5000 Leicester fans walk in unity to show the world just how much we are grieving from the loss of such a wonderful man. So today Thousands walked from Jubilee Square to the King Power stadium, and today they walked and tomorrow and forever they will remember the great man THE BOSS. A cordon is currently in place at the scene to enable the AAIB to examine the area and complete their initial enquiries. UPDATE Police statement 28/10/18 King Power Stadium incident Five believed dead. Issued on 28/10/18 at 10:00 p.m. Five people are believed to have died when a helicopter crashed outside the King Power Stadium yesterday evening (Saturday 27 October). The five people were on board the helicopter when the incident happened. While formal identification has not yet taken place, they are believed to be Leicester City Football Club chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, two members of his staff, Nursara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare, pilot Eric Swaffer and passenger Izabela Roza Lechowicz. The force has been working to ensure that all the relevant next of kin had been informed prior to this information being confirmed publicly. The aircraft came down in a car park near the stadium shortly after 8.30pm with Leicestershire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service all responding to the incident. No one else is believed to have been injured. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is leading the investigation into the accident and a cordon remains in place at the scene while enquiries continue. Leicestershire Police will be supporting the AAIB in its investigation, liaising closely with Leicester City Football Club as enquiries continue. Superintendent Steve Potter said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident in which five people are understood have lost their lives. “Emergency services were immediately on scene when the crash happened, working to put out the fire and gain access to the helicopter in attempts to reach those inside. Despite those efforts, there were no survivors. “The AAIB is now leading an investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash and investigators will remain at the scene to complete their initial enquiries. It is likely to take several days to fully complete the necessary work and to safely deal with the scene of this tragic accident, during that time we ask that both the media and public resist speculating around the cause of the crash. “We appreciate that both the public and media were keen to be updated on the circumstances and to confirm if those on board the helicopter had survived, but before any detail could be issued publicly, it was vital that all immediate next of kin were informed of the tragic outcome. As our communities will understand, this was a matter that needed to be handled sensitively and with dignity, with the families of the deceased being at the heart of our response, which involved other agencies. “Our thoughts today are with the families of those who have sadly died, with Leicester City Football Club, and with both football supporters and the wider local community who have all been impacted by the events of last night and the news that those on board the aircraft have not survived.” The AAIB and Leicestershire Police are asking that anyone who witnessed the crash to call 101 quoting incident number 546 of 28 October 2018. Today was the return of the Pride Colour Run hosted by the University of Leicester Running and Athletics Club on Victoria Park in Leicester This colour run has been a fantastic and popular part of the freshers calendar for pass three years, it is enjoyed by students and locals! Hundreds of runners showed their pride, or support for the cause of equality for all by taking part in this colourful and lighthearted event in the middle of Leicester. by Walking, running, or jogging the 5 km course to help raise awareness for LGBTQ+ equality and acceptance. The run Started near the Arch of Remembrance, the course consisted of two laps of Victoria Park, with 6 paint stations per lap, the runners got completely covered in colour.
