Summer Cinema draws crowds to Queen’s Park for a day of family entertainment

Hundreds of people enjoyed a day of free family entertainment as Summer Cinema returned to Queen’s Park in Loughborough on Sunday, July 5.

Organised by Charnwood Borough Council, the popular event featured free outdoor screenings of classic films Wall-E, The Lion King (1994) and Dirty Dancing, alongside live entertainment, face painting, giant games, fun rides and a range of food and drink stalls.

The films were selected following suggestions from residents through the Council’s Facebook page, helping to create a programme that appealed to cinema-goers of all ages.

Visitors packed Queen’s Park throughout the afternoon, bringing picnic blankets and deckchairs to enjoy the outdoor screenings and activities in the summer sunshine.

Councillor Jennifer Tillotson, Charnwood Borough Council’s Lead Member for Housing, Economic Development, Regeneration and Town Centres, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying this year’s Summer Cinema and making the most of everything Queen’s Park has to offer.

“Events like this help bring our communities together, support our town centre and create lasting memories for local families and visitors alike.

“I would like to thank everyone who attended, as well as the partners who helped make the event such a success. We are delighted with the response and look forward to more events in the coming months.”

Summer Cinema is part of the Council’s programme of events designed to encourage people to visit the borough’s parks and town centres while enjoying free, family-friendly activities.
